'Get It While It's Hot'

The latest album from Youtune - Jim Bruce and

daddystovepipe play Blake and Fuller

Youtune's latest offering brings together two Youtube guitarists , Jim Bruce

 (Acoustic Blues Travellers) and daddystovepipe.

For this collaboration they re-create the feel and style of two of the best old ragtime guitarists, Blind Arthur Blake and Blind Boy Fuller. daddystovepipe kicks off with Picolo Rag, a Fuller piece which immediately demonstrates daddy's mastery of his instrument and understanding of this wonderful old playing style.  Jim then drops down the pace for track 2 with 'Untrue Blues', another Fuller song with intense lyrics and unsual picking style.

During this album the mood travels from lighthearted to real lowdown. You're treated to some songs not normally covered by modern acousticguitarists, such as Lowdown Jailhouse and Down the Country (both Blake pieces), but also rip-roaring standards such as Truckin' Little Baby and Picolo Rag (Fuller).

Both the original artists laid the foundations stones that later became commuted into jazz and rock.

" A guitarist can spend months trying to play just like the old guys, note for note, and it's fun. You want to do this when teaching someone, to try to get inside the original player's skin, but what we tried to do on this album is to deliver the flavour and excitement of the music and the times. Often, I play to street audiences for 3 or 4 hours at a time - you start to push the music more and more, start to feel how it was for those guys. You get to know what people like and often it's ragtime, so you concentrate on that " - Jim Bruce

"I count Blake and Fuller to my most important influences and I always loved to play their 'rags in blues clothing'"  daddystovepipe

All tracks are solo efforts - maybe the next step is to get these two guys to play together - now that would be something.

daddystovepipe played a mahogany 1927 Supertone (Lindbergh model) for all his six tracks.
